Bristol Airport (BRS) sits roughly 8 miles south of the city centre, just off the A38 in North Somerset. Unlike larger UK airports, it has no railway station on site — so the question “how do I actually get there?” comes up almost every time a trip is booked.

The good news is that Bristol Airport is well connected by several transport options, each with its own trade-offs between cost, comfort and journey time. This guide breaks them all down so you can pick the one that suits your budget, your schedule and the size of your group.

In a rush? Here is the short version: the A1 Airport Flyer bus is the most popular budget option (from £9, every 8 minutes). A pre-booked taxi transfer is the fastest and most comfortable door-to-door choice. Read on for the full picture.

The A1 Bristol Airport Flyer — The Most Popular Bus Route

The A1 Airport Flyer, operated by First Bus, is the flagship public transport link between central Bristol and the airport. It carried over one million passengers in 2024 alone, and since April 2025 it runs at an increased frequency of every 8 minutes during peak hours.

Route and Stops

The A1 follows a direct route through the city:

Bristol Bus & Coach Station → City Centre → Bristol Temple Meads → Bedminster → Bristol Airport (Public Transport Interchange).

Since July 2025, all A1 buses serve the brand-new £60 million Public Transport Interchange at the airport, located directly across from the terminal building. The bus uses stands 4 and 5 in the Interchange — it no longer stops at the old terminal forecourt.

Timetable

The A1 operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except Christmas Day):

Time of Day Frequency Journey Time
7:00 am – 7:00 pm Every 8 minutes ~30 minutes
7:00 pm – 7:00 am Every 30 minutes ~30 minutes

Fares

Ticket Type Single Return
Adult £9 £15
Child (5–15) £6 £9
Student £7 £10
Family (2 Adults + 2 Children) £25

Return tickets are valid for one month. Children under 5 travel free with an accompanying adult. Tickets can be bought online, via the First Bus app or directly from the driver (contactless and cash accepted).

Important: English national concessionary bus passes are not accepted for free travel to and from Bristol Airport, although they can be used on other stops along the route.

Bristol Airport announced in late 2025 that 21 brand-new fully electric buses will replace the entire A1 and A3 fleet during 2026, making the Airport Flyer one of the greenest airport bus services in the UK.

The A3 Weston Airport Flyer — From Weston-super-Mare

If you live along the North Somerset coast, the A3 connects Weston-super-Mare to Bristol Airport via Worle Station, Congresbury and Cleeve. It uses stand 2 at the new Public Transport Interchange.

The A3 runs up to every 30 minutes during the day, with at least hourly services at night. Its frequency was increased by more than 60% in April 2025.

Ticket Type Single Return
Adult £5 £7
Child (5–15) £4 £5
Student £4 £5
Family (2 Adults + 2 Children) £20

The A3 connects with rail services at Worle and Weston-super-Mare stations, making it useful for travellers arriving by train from further south along the coast.

The A4 Air Decker — Bath to Bristol Airport

Travelling from Bath? The A4 Air Decker, operated by Bath Bus Company (Tootbus), runs a dedicated service from Bath Spa to Bristol Airport, stopping at Saltford, Keynsham, Brislington and South Bristol along the way.

The service operates 7 days a week from around 3:00 am through to 1:00 am, making it viable even for early-morning departures. Journey time from Bath city centre to the airport is approximately 55–65 minutes depending on traffic.

Fares: airport tickets start from around £17 for a return (bookable online at airdecker.com). Local journeys that do not start or end at the airport are available from £2.50 on board only.

The A4 is a solid choice for solo budget travellers from the Bath area, but families or groups of three or more will often find a pre-booked taxi transfer more cost-effective per person — and considerably faster.

The Falcon Coach — From Exeter, Plymouth, Taunton and Beyond

The Falcon is a long-distance coach service operated by Stagecoach under the Megabus brand. It connects Plymouth, Exeter, Cullompton, Wellington, Taunton and Bridgwater directly with Bristol Airport before continuing to Bristol city centre.

With up to 19 departures a day (including overnight services), the Falcon is a lifeline for travellers from Devon and Somerset who need to reach Bristol Airport without a car.

Journey Times and Sample Fares

From Journey Time Frequency Fares From
Plymouth ~3 h 20 min Up to 19/day From £5
Exeter ~1 h 45 min Up to 19/day From £5
Taunton ~1 h 10 min Up to 19/day From £5
Bridgwater ~45 min Up to 19/day From £5

Tickets are cheaper when booked in advance at megabus.co.uk. Contactless payment is also accepted on board. The Falcon stops directly at Bristol Airport’s Public Transport Interchange.

Tip: The Falcon is budget-friendly for solo travellers, but for groups of 2–4 the per-person cost of a pre-booked taxi transfer often works out similar — with the bonus of a door-to-door journey in a fraction of the time.

National Express and FlixBus — From South Wales

Passengers travelling from Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend or Swansea have two direct coach options:

National Express connects Cardiff Bus Station, Cardiff University and Newport Railway Station with Bristol Airport up to 6 times daily. Journey time from Cardiff is around 50 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes depending on the service.

FlixBus operates up to 8 daily services from Newport, Cardiff, Bridgend and Swansea to Bristol Airport, with competitive fares often starting under £10 when booked in advance.

Both services drop off at the airport’s Public Transport Interchange. For late-night or early-morning flights when coach services are not running, a pre-booked taxi transfer from Cardiff or Newport is the most reliable alternative.

Train to Bristol Airport – Via Temple Meads or Parkway

Bristol Airport does not have its own railway station. This is one of the most common surprises for first-time visitors. The nearest station is Bristol Temple Meads, roughly 8 miles (13 km) from the airport.

From Temple Meads, the A1 Airport Flyer bus gets you to the terminal in about 30 minutes. Combined rail + bus tickets can be purchased through GWR.com, the GWR app or Trainline — simply search for “Bristol Airport (A1 Bristol)” as your destination and the system adds the connecting bus automatically.

Bristol Parkway is another major station served by Great Western Railway and CrossCountry trains from London Paddington, the Midlands, the North and Scotland. From Parkway, you will need to take a local bus or connecting train to Temple Meads, then the A1 onwards — adding 15–20 minutes to the journey.

For a detailed breakdown of this connection, see our guide: Bristol Parkway to Bristol Airport: The Missing Train Connection Explained.

Faster alternative: A taxi from Bristol Temple Meads to the airport takes just 15–16 minutes and costs around £24–30 for up to 4 passengers. If you are arriving by train with luggage, this can be the smartest move — especially with a group.

Pre-Booked Taxi Transfer – The Door-to-Door Option

For many travellers, especially families, groups and anyone with early or late flights, a pre-booked private taxi transfer is the option that makes the most practical sense.

Why Choose a Taxi Transfer?

No waiting, no connections, no dragging luggage onto a bus. Your driver meets you at an agreed time, loads your bags and takes you directly from your home, hotel or any address to the airport terminal — or the reverse on arrival.

Here is how it stacks up against public transport:

Factor A1 Bus Train + A1 Taxi Transfer
Door-to-door No — bus stops only No — stations + bus Yes ✓
Early/late flights 30-min gaps overnight Limited trains Any time, 24/7 ✓
Luggage handling Self-carry Self-carry + transfers Driver loads bags ✓
Group cost (4 pax) £36 single (4 × £9) £36+ plus rail fares Fixed price, all in ✓
Journey time ~30 min from T. Meads Varies + 30 min bus Fastest route ✓
Reliability Traffic-dependent Train delays + traffic Driver monitors flight ✓

Driving to Bristol Airport

If you prefer to drive yourself, the airport is easily accessible from the M5 motorway (from the north or south) and the M4 (from South Wales and London). The sat-nav postcode is BS48 3DY for the main car parks and BS48 3DW for Silver Zone parking.

Bristol Airport offers several parking options: Silver Zone (long-stay with free shuttle bus), Multi-Storey Car Park (covered, walking distance to terminal), and Meet & Greet (premium, valet-style). Prices vary by duration and booking lead time, but expect to pay anywhere from £30 to over £100 for a week depending on the car park and how far ahead you book.

Keep in mind: Bristol operates a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) in the city centre. If your route passes through it, older vehicles may be charged. The airport itself is outside the CAZ, but if you are driving through central Bristol to get there, check whether your vehicle is affected.

For more about drop-off and pick-up charges at the terminal, see our guide: Bristol Airport Drop Off & Pick Up: Charges, Zones and Free Options.

Practical Tips for Getting to Bristol Airport

Allow extra time. Bristol Airport has a single terminal and security queues can build up during peak holiday periods. Aim to arrive at least 2 hours before a short-haul flight and 3 hours before long-haul.

Check your flight time against bus schedules. If your flight departs before 6:00 am or arrives after midnight, the A1 still runs but only every 30 minutes. A pre-booked taxi eliminates the risk of a missed connection.

Combine rail and bus tickets. If you are travelling by train, book a combined ticket through GWR or Trainline using “Bristol Airport” as your destination. This is often cheaper than buying rail and bus tickets separately.

Travelling as a group? Do the maths. Four A1 bus singles come to £36 – which is often comparable to a fixed-price taxi that picks you up from your front door. For three or more passengers, a transfer is almost always better value.

The airport has no train station. This catches out many visitors. If your itinerary assumes a direct train connection, you will need to adjust.

Which Option Is Right for You?

There is no single “best” way to get to Bristol Airport – it depends on where you are starting from, how many people are travelling, what time your flight is, and how much convenience matters to you.

For solo travellers on a budget, the A1 Airport Flyer is hard to beat at £9 with departures every 8 minutes. For anyone coming from Bath, the A4 Air Decker does the job. And for Devon and Somerset passengers, the Falcon coach is a reliable long-distance option.

But if you want the fastest, most comfortable, stress-free way to reach Bristol Airport – with your bags handled, your timing guaranteed and no connections to worry about – a pre-booked taxi transfer is the clear winner. It is especially good value for couples, families and groups, where the per-person cost often matches or beats public transport.
