From most of Portishead the transfer joins the A369 heading east, the main road connecting the town to the Bristol area. The A369 passes through Easton-in-Gordano and Abbots Leigh before reaching the M5 interchange at Junction 19, where Gordano Services sits on the northern side of the motorway. This stretch of the A369 can be busy during morning and evening commuter periods, and our drivers account for this when planning departure times.

During peak hours between 07:30 and 09:00 on weekday mornings, queues can form on the A369 approaching the M5 roundabout. Drivers familiar with this corridor know when to allow a slightly earlier pick-up and can advise at the time of booking if conditions look problematic for your particular slot.

Joining the M5 and Approaching the Airport

From Junction 19 the route joins the M5 southbound for a short stretch to Junction 20, then picks up the A370 west before connecting with the A38 heading south to the airport. Bristol Airport sits directly on the A38 at Lulsgate Bottom, and the terminal entrance is clearly signed from the main road. The driver will pull through to the departures drop-off zone at the terminal building.

Outside of peak commuter hours the run from Portishead to the airport is quick and uncomplicated. Most transfers clear the A369 and onto the motorway within 10 to 15 minutes, with the remaining stretch to the terminal being straightforward motorway and dual-carriageway driving. Total journey time on a clear run sits comfortably within 25 minutes.

Bristol Airport operates from a single terminal building, which means drop-off is simple. The departures set-down area is directly in front of the terminal on the ground level. Travelling with a full complement of holiday suitcases is no problem.
