Manchester Airport now runs as a two-terminal operation. Terminal 1 permanently closed in November 2025 as part of a wider transformation programme, with its old entrance folded into an expanded Terminal 3, now used for Ryanair services.

Most international and European flights now depart from and arrive at the newly enlarged Terminal 2, which has doubled in size and handles roughly three quarters of all passengers. Whichever terminal your flight uses, your driver already knows the current layout.

Crossing the Pennines on the M56, M60 and M62

Leaving the terminal, the route heads south on the M56 before joining the M60 ring road around Manchester for a short stretch. From there the driver picks up the M62 eastbound, the main artery linking Manchester with Leeds, Bradford, and the Yorkshire coast.

The M62 climbs steadily into the Pennines, passing the Windmill wind farm above Saddleworth Moor before descending toward Huddersfield and Leeds. This stretch occasionally sees reduced speed limits in poor weather, and our drivers plan around this rather than being caught out.

Beyond Leeds the driver leaves the M62 for the A64, a road that follows an old Roman route toward York. It passes the Tadcaster bypass before reaching the A1237 junction at Askham Bar, on the edge of the city.

From Askham Bar most drivers continue along Tadcaster Road into the historic core, passing the racecourse at Knavesmire and the York Marriott Hotel on the approach. For destinations on the eastern side, the driver instead stays on the A64 bypass toward the Fulford junction.

That Fulford exit sits directly beside the Designer Outlet and the racecourse grandstand, and links onto Fulford Road for a direct run toward the university and the eastern suburbs of the city, avoiding the narrower streets of the centre entirely.
