The Journey to Manchester Airport

The most direct route from Hull to Manchester Airport runs west out of the city on the A63, joining the M62 near North Cave for the long trans-Pennine crossing that eventually meets the Manchester motorway network on the western side of the country.

It is a longer transfer than most of our routes, so drivers plan for a comfortable, unhurried drive rather than a dash across the country, with the option to stop briefly if a very early start makes that welcome.

Crossing the Pennines on the M62

Once past Huddersfield the M62 joins the M60 Manchester ring road, which the driver follows around the eastern and southern edge of the city towards the M56, the final stretch before the airport turn-off at Junction 5.

Manchester Airport is reached via a dedicated slip road at Junction 5 of the M56. Terminal 1 permanently closed in November 2025, so every transfer now heads for Terminal 2 or Terminal 3, both clearly signposted from the motorway.

For Terminal 2 the driver follows the slip road up to the first roundabout, then on to Flag Island, where the drop-off ramp leads to the upper forecourt beside the main check-in hall.

Terminal 3 sits a short distance further on past the Hilton and Clayton hotels, with its own forecourt directly in front of the building, so the driver knows exactly which route to take once your airline is confirmed.

Both terminals share the same check-in concourse layout passengers expect from a major UK hub, with plenty of time built into the transfer to reach the desks well before your flight closes.
