Leaving Cambridgeshire on the M11

Passengers collected from the Science Park, Milton, or north Cambridge join the M11 at Junction 14 near Girton, where the A14 also meets the motorway. Those picked up from the city centre, the railway station, or south Cambridge typically join at Junction 11, reached via Trumpington Road and the A1309.

From either junction the M11 runs south through South Cambridgeshire and into Essex, passing close to Duxford and skirting the Bishops Stortford and Stansted Airport corridor around Junction 8. Traffic here is generally lighter than the roads closer to London, though harvest-season tractors on the approach roads can occasionally slow the final few miles out of Cambridgeshire.

Junction 27 marks the end of the M11 and the start of the M25, one of the busiest interchanges in the East of England, particularly during the weekday evening commute out of London.

Crossing the Thames: the M25 and Dartford Crossing

From Junction 27 the route follows the M25 in the clockwise direction through Essex towards the Dartford Crossing, crossing the River Thames on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, the southbound side of the crossing that also includes twin tunnels for traffic heading north.

Payment is handled through a camera-based charge system rather than a barrier, and this is accounted for as part of the transfer, so there is nothing for passengers to arrange themselves. From the crossing, the M25 continues south west through Kent before reaching the M23 interchange at Junction 7.

This stretch of the M25 sits close to the top of the list for reported congestion in the South East, so weekday travel between 07:00 and 09:30 and again from 16:30 to 18:30 should be allowed extra time. Overnight and early-morning transfers move through this section with very little resistance.

Arriving at Gatwick - North and South Terminal Drop-Off

Gatwick has two separate terminals, North and South, and they do not connect directly by road, so knowing the right one in advance matters. We ask for your flight number and terminal at the time of booking so the driver heads straight to the correct forecourt.

Both terminals are reached from the M23 at Junction 9, with a short roundabout system directing traffic left toward the South Terminal or straight ahead for the North Terminal. Your driver knows this junction well and will already be positioned in the correct lane well before the exit.

The drop-off itself is on the forecourt directly outside departures at both terminals. Vehicles are not permitted to wait once passengers and luggage have been unloaded, so your driver will help you out quickly with your bags before moving on.
